Cyber crime lawyer in Bangalore

Online and UPI fraud, bank accounts frozen by a cyber complaint, loan app harassment, sextortion and impersonation, from the first complaint to getting money released.

If money has just left your account

Call 1930 or report on cybercrime.gov.in first, before you call us. Speed matters more than anything else in a fraud case. The complaint goes to the banks in the chain, and money that is still sitting in the fraudster’s account can be put on hold. Every hour lets it move further.

Then tell your own bank in writing, and keep the acknowledgement. Save screenshots of the messages, call logs, UPI transaction IDs and the website or app you used. Do not delete the chat, even if it is embarrassing.

After that, talk to us. Our article on how to file a cyber crime complaint in Bengaluru walks through the first day.

Hands holding a phone showing a payment screen, with a notebook of transaction details beside it Write down every transaction ID and time before you call 1930.

Complaint, FIR and the CEN police station

An online complaint is not the same as an FIR. In Bengaluru, cyber fraud cases are usually handled by the CEN (Cyber, Economic and Narcotics) police stations. We help you:

  • turn the online complaint into a proper written complaint with a clear timeline
  • get an FIR registered when the station delays or sends you away
  • follow up with the investigating officer on bank freezes and records

Offences are usually charged under the Information Technology Act, 2000 (for example Section 66C for identity theft and Section 66D for cheating by impersonation) along with cheating sections of the BNS.

Getting money back

Money that the police have got frozen in another account does not come back by itself. Usually it needs an order from the magistrate’s court directing the bank to release the amount to you. We prepare that application, attach the FIR, bank letters and proof that the money was yours, and follow it through. Our article on UPI and online fraud recovery explains what is realistic and what is not.

Your bank account has been frozen

This is the other side of cyber fraud. Many people in Bengaluru find their account suddenly blocked because money from a fraud passed through it, often after selling something online or a peer-to-peer crypto trade. Police send a notice to the bank, usually under Section 106 BNSS (old Section 102 CrPC).

Several High Courts have held that a whole account should not be frozen when the disputed amount is small, and that the bank should mark a lien only on that sum. We find out which police station asked for the freeze, write to the officer and the bank, and where needed apply to the magistrate or the High Court of Karnataka. See bank account frozen due to cyber crime for the steps.

Loan app harassment, sextortion and impersonation

  • Loan app harassment: threatening calls, messages to your contacts and morphed photos. Read loan app harassment for what to do with the app, the bank and the police.
  • Sextortion: a video call that was recorded, then demands for money. Do not pay. Paying almost always leads to more demands. Report it, and we help with the complaint and with getting content taken down.
  • Impersonation and fake profiles: someone using your name or photos on social media, or pretending to be you to borrow money. We help with the complaint and with reporting to the platform.

If you are accused

Sometimes the person whose account received the money is not the fraudster at all. If you have received a notice from a cyber police station, or someone in your family has been called in, see our criminal lawyer in Bangalore page. We advise on the notice, anticipatory bail and the investigation.

Questions people ask

How long does it take to get money back after cyber fraud?

It varies a great deal. It depends on whether the money was frozen in time, how many accounts it passed through, and how quickly the court hears the release application. Some amounts are never traced.

Do I need a lawyer to file a cyber complaint?

No. You can call 1930 and file on cybercrime.gov.in yourself, and you should do that immediately. A lawyer helps later, with the FIR, follow up, and the court application to release frozen money.

My account is frozen but I did nothing wrong. What should I do?

Ask your bank in writing for the police station, the complaint number and the amount involved. With those details, we can approach the officer and, if needed, the court to have the freeze limited or lifted.

Should I pay a loan app that is harassing me?

Pay only what you actually borrowed, through a traceable channel, and keep proof. Do not pay extra demands made through threats. Report the harassment to the police, and complain to the bank or finance company that actually gave the loan.
