Bengaluru courts guide: addresses, what each court hears, and case status
Which court or tribunal in Bengaluru deals with your matter, where it sits, and how to check your case status online before you make the trip.
Bengaluru’s courts are spread across several buildings in the city centre. A summons that says “City Civil Court” may mean K.G. Road or Mayo Hall. A family case is heard in Sudhama Nagar, near Shanthinagar. A consumer complaint may be in a BMTC building in Shanthinagar, or in the Water Board building on K.G. Road. This guide lists each one with the postal address the court or authority itself publishes, and how to check your case status before you go.
Addresses are taken from the official websites of the Bengaluru Urban district courts, the Karnataka State Consumer Disputes Redressal Commission and K-RERA, and from a Government of India notification for the DRT. Courts do move. If your notice shows a different address, go by the notice and call the registry to confirm.

High Court of Karnataka
The principal bench of the High Court sits in the red-brick High Court Buildings (Attara Kacheri), opposite Vidhana Soudha on Ambedkar Veedhi, Bengaluru 560001. The nearest metro station is Dr. B.R. Ambedkar Station (Vidhana Soudha) on the Purple Line, a short walk away. The High Court also has benches at Dharwad and Kalaburagi for north Karnataka cases.
It hears writ petitions against the government and public bodies, appeals from the City Civil Court and district courts, criminal appeals and revisions, bail applications after the sessions court has refused, and appeals from many tribunals.
Case status: on the High Court’s website, karnatakajudiciary.kar.nic.in, use the case status search by case number, party name or advocate, and check the daily cause list for the court hall and item number.
City Civil and Sessions Court, K.G. Road
The City Civil Court Complex on Kempegowda Road (K.G. Road), Bengaluru 560009 is the main civil court for Bengaluru city. It was set up under the Bangalore City Civil Court Act and began work in 1980. The same judges also sit as Sessions Judges for serious criminal cases.
It hears civil suits in the city (property, injunctions, partition, money suits above the Small Causes limit), sessions trials, anticipatory and regular bail in sessions cases, appeals from magistrate courts, and succession and probate petitions for people who lived in the city.
The Court of Small Causes has its registry in the same complex. It handles smaller money suits and many rent and eviction matters.
The Commercial Court Complex is separate, on the 2nd and 3rd floors of the BSNL Building, Telephone House, Ambedkar Veedhi, K.G. Road.
Mayo Hall court complex
Mayo Hall, opposite Central Mall on M.G. Road, Bengaluru 560001 houses additional units of the City Civil and Sessions Court, the Court of Small Causes, and additional magistrate courts. If your case papers say “Mayo Hall Unit”, go here, not to K.G. Road.
Family courts (people search “family court Shanthinagar”)
Bengaluru’s family courts sit in the Nyaya Degula Complex, Siddaiah Road, Sudhama Nagar, Bengaluru 560027. It is off the road from the Lalbagh main gate towards the Shanthinagar bus station, which is why many people know it as the “Shanthinagar family court”. There is a Principal Judge and several Additional Principal Judges, all in the same complex.
Family courts hear divorce (mutual and contested), maintenance, custody and guardianship, and restitution of conjugal rights. Read more in our family court Bengaluru guide, and see family court case status for checking your next date.
Magistrate courts (ACMM, now ACJM)
Most criminal cases start in the magistrate courts at the CMM Court Complex, Nrupatunga Road, Bengaluru 560001. More magistrate courts sit at Mayo Hall and inside the City Civil Court Complex.
People still search for “ACMM court”. Under the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS), which replaced the CrPC from 1 July 2024, there are no longer separate metropolitan magistrates, and the courts’ official lists now use titles such as Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate (ACJM). The building is still called the CMM Court Complex.
These courts deal with FIR-based cases after the police file a charge sheet, private complaints, cheque bounce cases under Section 138 of the Negotiable Instruments Act, bail in magistrate-triable offences, and remand. The police station-wise magistrate list on bengaluru.dcourts.gov.in tells you which court handles cases from your police station.
Consumer commissions (people search “Basava Bhavan”)
District commissions for Bengaluru Urban sit in two places:
- Bangalore Urban District Consumer Disputes Redressal Commission: Kaveri Bhavan, 8th floor, Water Board Building, Bengaluru 560009
- 1st (with Bangalore Rural), 2nd, 3rd and 4th Additional District Commissions: BMTC TTMC Building, 1st floor, B Block, Shanthinagar, K.H. Road, Bengaluru 560027
District commissions hear complaints where the amount paid for the goods or service is up to Rs 50 lakh. The old Ramanagara district is now Bengaluru South district, and its commission sits in Prashasti Bhavan, Old B.M. Road.
The Karnataka State Consumer Disputes Redressal Commission is at Basava Bhavan, Sri Basaveshwara Circle, High Grounds, Bengaluru 560001. It hears complaints from above Rs 50 lakh up to Rs 2 crore, and appeals from district commissions. It also has circuit benches at Kalaburagi and Belagavi.

Motor Accident Claims Tribunal (MACT)
Claims for compensation after a road accident are filed before the Motor Accident Claims Tribunal under Section 166 of the Motor Vehicles Act. The claim can be filed where the accident happened, where you live, or where the insurer carries on business. In Bengaluru, MACT claims are heard by designated judges in the city court complexes, and the case number usually starts with MVC. Search eCourts with your MVC number to find the exact court hall. See motor accident claims in Bengaluru.
Labour courts and Industrial Tribunal
The Principal Labour Court, Additional Labour Courts, the Industrial Tribunal and the Additional Industrial Tribunal for Bengaluru are in the same Nyaya Degula Complex, Siddaiah Road, Sudhama Nagar as the family courts. They hear industrial disputes referred by the labour department, such as dismissal of a workman, wage and service disputes. Disputes involving central government undertakings go to a separate Central Government Industrial Tribunal.
Debts Recovery Tribunals (DRT Bengaluru)
Under a Government of India notification (S.O. 1295(E) of 21 March 2023), the Debts Recovery Tribunals at Bengaluru function from the BSNL Building, Telephone House, 4th floor, Raj Bhavan Road, Bengaluru 560001, with effect from 2 December 2022. The old address on Residency Road (LIC Jeevan Mangal Building) still appears in many listings. It is out of date.
DRTs hear bank and financial institution recovery claims of Rs 20 lakh and above, and borrowers’ applications against SARFAESI action under Section 17. Case status is on the DRT website, drt.gov.in. Read our article on SARFAESI notices and the DRT.
K-RERA
The Karnataka Real Estate Regulatory Authority is at 2nd floor, Silver Jubilee Block, Unity Building, CSI Compound, 3rd Cross, Mission Road, Bengaluru 560027. Complaints against builders for delay, refunds and defects are filed online on rera.karnataka.gov.in, where you can also follow the complaint and see orders. See how to file a RERA complaint in Karnataka.
How to check case status online
For district courts in Bengaluru (City Civil, Small Causes, magistrate, family, labour and MACT cases):
- Go to services.ecourts.gov.in or the Bengaluru courts site, bengaluru.dcourts.gov.in, and open Case Status.
- If you have the CNR number, enter it. It is a 16-character alphanumeric code printed on summonses and orders, such as the sample MHAU019999992015 shown on the eCourts site. Type it without spaces or hyphens.
- If you don’t have the CNR, choose Karnataka, Bengaluru Urban district and the court complex, then search by case number, party name, advocate name or FIR number.
- The result shows the next hearing date, the court hall, the stage of the case and past orders, which you can usually download.
The eCourts Services mobile app on Android and iPhone does the same, and lets you save your cases under “My Cases” so you don’t have to search each time.
For the High Court, use the case status and cause list pages on karnatakajudiciary.kar.nic.in. For consumer commissions, use the case status search on e-Jagriti (e-jagriti.gov.in), which the State Commission’s website links to. For the DRT, use drt.gov.in, and for K-RERA, the complaint search on rera.karnataka.gov.in.
Court timings and holidays
We have not listed sitting hours here, because the High Court changes them by notification and they differ between courts. Courts usually begin work in the morning and break for lunch, and your matter can be called at any time once the court sits. Arrive before the court starts, check the cause list for your item number, and wait in the hall. The Bengaluru courts’ holiday list is on bengaluru.dcourts.gov.in.
